OUR PRACTICE
STRATEGIC & DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS

The Firm has the sole distinction in this country of having among its partners accomplished individuals who have served with distinction in senior government positions including that of Chief Presidential Legal Counsel to two Presidents of the Republic, Defense Secretary, Ombudsman and Solicitor General. Other members of the Firm have also served as Undersecretaries and Assistant Secretaries and held other senior positions in various government agencies. Together, they were deeply involved in the formulation of public policies and legislative bills, review of government contracts and the coordination of public policy litigation critical to governance and national development. Their collective knowledge, competence, skill and experience provide the Firm and its clients a unique view and understanding of the nuances and challenges of dealing with government, particularly in the pursuit of strategic and developmental projects.

By its sheer scope and magnitude, strategic and developmental projects span various areas of practice where our clients’ interests intersect with that of government. It is a field where a stable public and private sector partnership is essential to the success of an undertaking. Apart from business objectives, national development imperatives underlie and drive such pursuits.

In general, strategic and developmental projects include:

Infrastructure Projects

Prior to and particularly since the passage of the Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) Law, our lawyers have provided regulatory and transactional advice to clients who have built vital infrastructure and pursued developmental projects, such as mass rail transport, water supply, waste management, land reclamation, toll roads, airports and telecommunications.

Government, Procurement & Other Contracts

The peculiar nature of contracting with government principally arises from the character of the public funds used to finance the same. Mindful of this, our returning partners, while still serving in government, were at the forefront of implementing procurement reform in government.

Public Policy & Reform

The Firm's dedication to public service is a legacy drawn from the keen sense of social responsibility of our founding partners who believed that social purpose is integral to the practice of law. We are one in believing that the law serves as a tool for social engineering and is the means by which public policy and societal values are enunciated and enforced.
