ROWANIE A. NAKAN ACCREDITED AS PHILIPPINE PATENT AGENT

Rowanie A. Nakan, a Junior Associate of Villaraza Cruz Marcelo & Angangco, recently passed the 2007 Patent Agent Qualifying Examination (“PAQE”) administered on 17 July 2007 by the Intellectual Property Philippines (“IP Philippines”), automatically entering her name in the Registry of Patent Agents of IP Philippines. Nineteen (19) out of thirty-three (33) examinees passed the said exam.
Successful PAQE examinees are competent to draft patent claims, after having undertaken intensive workshops on patent drafting. Consultants of the European Patent Office acted as PAQE examiners.
The first PAQE was administered in 2006. Abigail Hope T. Serrano, another Junior Associate of the Firm, was among the first successful PAQE examinees.
Another member of the Firm, Edmund Jason G. Baranda, a Senior Associate, is also a member of Fédération Internationale des Conseils en Propriété Industrielle (FICPI). FICPI is a world-wide organization of intellectual property attorneys in private practice. He also succesfully passed the patent drafting examination conducted by the Institute of Patent and Trademark Attorneys of Australia (IPTA) in collaboration with FICPI.
