University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law students Ma. Francesca Q. Baltazar and Ryan Hartzell C. Balicasan are the first recipients of the Carpio Villaraza & Cruz (CVC) Scholarship Grant for the Academic Year 2006-2007. The CVC Scholarship Grant was formally launched on 26 January 2005 as part of the celebration of the 25 th anniversary of Villaraza & Angangco Law Offices (formerly Carpio Villaraza & Cruz), and is awarded to qualified law students who have demonstrated exceptional scholastic performance, leadership abilities and dedication to service.

Ms. Baltazar, who is in her junior year in the College of Law, was a Councilor of the University Student Council of the UP and is a member of the Order of the Purple Feather, the Honor Society of the UP College of Law. She graduated cum laude from the UP College of Arts and Sciences, with a degree in Political Science.

Mr. Balicasan, who is in his sophomore year in the College of Law, was an Editor of the Philippine Collegian, the official newspaper of the UP System and is the Vice-Chairman of the Philippine Law Journal. Mr. Balicasan is also a member of the Order of the Purple Feather. He also graduated cum laude from the UP College of Arts and Sciences, with a degree in Political Science.

The CVC Scholarship Grant was awarded by Atty. Raoul R. Angangco, Co-Managing Partner of the Firm, to Ms. Baltazar and Mr. Balicasan in simple ceremonies held at the Villaraza & Angangco Law Offices on 28 November 2006. Also in attendance were partners Elma Christine R. Leogardo, Bienvenido I. Somera, Jr., Susan D. Villanueva and Patricia A. O. Bunye
